Definitely not a Marriott 4 Star hotel property!! Dirty and no housecleaning included…there are better places to stay.

We flew to Birmingham for the weekend to attend the NASCAR race with friends. Checked in for a 3 night stay and never had our room cleaned the entire time we were there after repeated calls & visits to the front desk. The carpet in our room was filthy. The manger was of no help in addressing our concerns, blamed it on the lack of help. Definitely not a Marriott experience for a 4 star hotel!!!

The Westin would have received a four out of five except for two reasons: their buffet is expensive, if you only want something light or have a child, they didn’t make up our room two days in a row, even after we complained the first day. The other couple we were with had the same experience. Here is my advice to the owners, if you don’t have enough help to provide great customer service, don’t rent out all the rooms. The location is good, the shampoos etc. were nice and the staff was friendly, but they apparently are not being provided with the right tools for the experience we expected from a Westin. In the spirit of transparency I asked that we be comped our parking and we were, but would rather have come in to our room after a long day and had the beds made and fresh towels.

As long as you don’t expect a Westin, it’s ok. Beat up room furniture, dim lighting in halls and room, unfriendly staff, bathroom shower gel pump empty, light bulbs out, lumpy bed. Positives- clean, AC worked well, and convenient to BJCC and several restaurants.

The stay was great. Great location, super nice room with a great mattress and dark curtains that didn't allow any light.! However, the kicker was the staff. In a busy, non friendly world, they epitomize the phrase, "Southern Hospitality." They were so polite and courteous. I made a big booking mistake regarding my arrival. It was 100% my issue and not Marriott's. However, since the hotel was not very full, the hotel receptionist referred me to his manager. His manager and hotel operations manager, Mr Moody was extremely professional and polite. He assured me that he would solve my problems and do his best to make my stay a pleasant one. He delivered and did just that. As a Titanium Marriott member and frequent traveler, employees such as Mr Moody is a primary reason that we stay loyal to the Marriott brand.

Unlike many other reviews here, I found the Westin Birmingham to be outstanding. While I would agree that the property is a bit aged, my room was outstanding as were all of the staff I encountered from the fromt desk to housekeeping. And unlike many other hotels across the nation who stick to the ridiculous non-daily COVID room cleaning, this Westin offers daily housekeeping, which I was very pleased with! The beds and pillows were very comfortable plus there is an actual shower. No showering in a bathtub! This hotel offers enjoyable old fashioned southern hospitality so thank you to all Westin staff for that! I was attending a work conference at the Sheraton. There is an internal bridge that connects the two hotels so you don't have to venture outside to get from one hotel to another. I found the Westin to be the better of the two hotels plus all of the nearby restaurants are within walking distance of the Westin, another huge bonus. So job well done Westin! I would definitely stay there again when in Birmingham!
